I've always been sceptical of energy healing, it sounds hocus pocus and mystical to me, but from the moment I decided to heal Social Anxiety I also decided to keep and open mind and be willing to try anything.
This is a principle that has served me well, so when my partner said she wanted me to try Reiki and that should could tune me, which means show me how to do it, I agreed to it without pre-judging.
I left all of my judgements to one side, any thoughts I had about it I left alone while I opened myself up to it.
I was actually astonished to find that after just two weeks I was already feeling different. I felt far more confident than I had been before and I saw things from a new perspective.
What I realised is that my understanding of energy healing was lacking. But by doing it and with my understanding of how life coaching helps us, changed my perspective on this.
My understanding is now a little different, it's not mystical at all, it makes perfect sense.
You see, when you feel anger, that is energy, when you feel calm, that is also energy: when you feel, it is energy.
Whether you want to call it something else doesn't matter, emotional healing perhaps.
The way it works from my understanding, is that you find in your body where you feel peace for example, and you sit with that feeling, you connect with it, you meditate on that feeling.
This aligns you to feeling peace, it makes it easier to connect to it in moments where you would usually lose your cool.
Now there are other parts of this, for example there are symbols you draw on your hands and a light that flashes through your body.
For me the symbols are like an anchor used in hypnosis, they help you connect to the feeling, much like when you hear a song that triggers a certain memory and sensation.
The flash of light, from what I have experienced so far is simply visualisation, which has the power to create feeling. We can do this with memories, or visualising something happy can make us feel that sensation.
Visualising light that you have given the intention of healing and love and then seeing it fill your body feels good. And anything that feels good in this way is generally good for us.
Stress can cause disease in the body, the chemicals that the body releases when stressed are damaging in large quantities.
In the same vain, when you visualise this loving, healing light, your body seems to flood the cells with chemicals that allow them to thrive (this is just conjecture at this point) and it makes sense and certainly can only do good.
I haven't been shown how to do distance healing yet and as you can imagine I am sceptical, but I'm also aware that my understanding may not be complete and so I am open to doing it to see if I can fill in the gaps of my understanding.
I will finish this article by saying that I'm really enjoying using Reiki on myself. It's a great meditation to sit with and feel peace, strength and connection to my best-self, that's how I see it.
